One thing is for sure, if you’re shooting with the new crop of HDSLR cameras—Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 7D or the Panasonic Lumix GH1—you’ll need to put some serious thought into your audio workflow. While each of these cameras is capable of producing remarkable images with their large sensors and interchangeable lens systems, they are all pretty awful in the audio department.

Video: Sync Sound and Canon 5D Mark II

Jem Schofield put together this video describing how to sync external recorded audio with HD video shot on the Canon 5D Mark II. The 5D Mark II records audio from a built-in mic, but for improved quality Jem uses the Zoom H4N to record audio from a shotgun mic.
He then goes over his process for syncing audio tracks quickly and easily with a plugin for Final Cut Pro called PluralEyes.

At Abel, we like to stay on the cutting edge of technology, and keep a close watch on the film industry. This usually means that we are working with the latest Digital Cinema, HD, and film cameras. So it came as a bit of a surprise to us when we started seeing HD video clips originated from digital still cameras. For many years now, still cameras have been shooting low-resolution video, but a few still cameras out there just recently started capturing full HD video. This is an exciting feature in the still imaging world for sure, but what does it mean to the professional HD market?
