Abel’s Power Packages for RED One

The RED One runs on 12vdc power. The power draw is considerable, about 8 amps before adding accessories to the camera. This equals nearly 100 watts of power draw per hour. Abel has teamed with Anton Bauer to provide a number of battery solutions for the RED One.

The RED One uses a V-shaped battery mount for on board use and a Lemo-8 power in connector on the camera itself. Anton Bauer uses a 3-pin battery connector for their small batteries. All of the RED battery kits Abel sells include a replacement battery plate with integrated Lemo-8 cable that will mount directly to the standard RED battery plate mount using a few supplied screws. The swap from the V plate to the 3-pin plate takes less than five minutes and is fully reversible.

A Dionic 90 is a lightweight Lithium Ion 90 watt battery that will run a RED One for just under one hour. A Hytron 140 is a beefier Nickel Metal Hydride battery that will run the RED One for about 1.5 hours. At about five pounds, it is still light enough for handheld use and will help balance the weight of the camera on the operator’s shoulder.

Anton Bauer now also manufactures large block batteries for longer continuous power. The Cine VCLX is a huge 560-watt battery the equivalent of four Hytron 140s. It will run a RED One camera for at least six hours. The Cine VCLX-2 is half the size, with 280 watts of power to run the RED One for at least three hours. The Abel RED kits include a 10-foot cable to plug directly into the RED One’s Lemo-8 power port.
