Meet Aaton Xterà: Compatibility & Flexibility

For forty years, Aaton cameras have been known for their reliability, intuitive design, quality construction and exceptional images. The Xterà continues in this tradition while introducing some significant improvements. With features like assistant and operator side displays, improved power management, a generous junction box, and a new, progressive scan video assist that delivers full resolution images, the Xterà is suited to more styles of film production than ever before.

The Xterà has inherited everything that’s given Aaton Super16 cameras their legendary reputation, including their ergonomic design and outstanding image quality. What’s more, all existing XTRprods are easily upgradeable to Xterà level.

Aaton XteraWith the Aaton system, your investment is always safe. Not only can you upgrade your existing camera to the latest model, but also you can continue to use virtually any accessory that you did with your older generation XTR camera body. The Xterà is fully compatible with all of your XTRprod and XTRplus accessories from speed controls to screw-in rods to magnetic drive magazines. The same lenses mount on the camera and the same Kodak and Fuji film stocks run through it to create the sharpest and most pleasing images available.

The Super16 format has a proven track record of producing consistent, repeatable and dependable results, and it remains relevant to today’s production needs. With the proliferation of Digital Intermediates for film-based workflows and the development of the VISION2 and ETERNA lines of film stocks from Kodak and Fuji, Super16 is the most future-proof mode of image acquisition available. It gives you the assurance that the negative will be around to archive and view a hundred years from now.

The first generation of Aaton cameras developed by Jean-Pierre Beauviala forty years ago are still rolling film and producing striking images with modern film stocks and optics. It all goes to show that choosing to shoot on film is a bold but smart choice for any production in which image quality and longevity are paramount.
